Battles for the Top

Windswept dunes, shifting grip, and fierce determination - Zandvoort demanded everything. Jim Clark, relentless as ever, didn’t just win; he fought for every lap. From the green light, Jackie Stewart pushed hard, proving he wasn’t just a rising star but a true contender. Their duel was gritty, close, and raw. Clark led, but Stewart stayed within striking distance, lap after lap, waiting for the slightest mistake.

None came.

Behind them, Dan Gurney was locked in his own fight - with the track, the car, and his rivals. His drive was pure grit, muscling his way into third, wrestling every inch from his machine. The race wasn’t without drama: sand blew onto the circuit, catching out drivers, and a late spin from a backmarker nearly took out the leaders.

Stewart made his move on lap 60, diving inside Clark into Tarzan, but Clark held firm, tyres scrabbling for grip. Grit in the teeth, hands on the edge - they gave everything. Gurney closed in, but the front two were gone, locked in their private war.

Clark crossed the line first, just ahead of a defiant Stewart, with Gurney not far behind, bruised but proud.
